I went to Hervey Bay for the weekend. The weather was beautiful and I got to share the fantastic sun and smashing views with my Wife. It was a great weekend of eating plenty and relaxing by the pool. Saturday morning I met some of the local riders for a quick spin before we finished up at a coffee shop by the beach for great brew. All the guys and gals from the Fraser Coast Bicycle Users Group were fantastic. (www.fcbug.org.au) A very welcoming and friendly bunch of people to ride and chat with. They showed some great interest in my up-coming tour and I look forward to meeting up with them again for some more kms in the Hervey Bay sun when I return.
I was meant to ride with the 'BUGS' again on Sunday, but I got out of bed late and missed them at the meeting point. I took myself on a trip out to Burrum Heads instead. 85km round trip of pretty flat, long roads. I got a taste of the road surface that I will be riding on for most of my tour during my ride. Not smooth roads like I'm used to in the Brisbane City area. These roads really make you work for your speed. Not to mention the nice gusty head winds that make you put your head down and really push those cranks around. The view out to the water was awesome and very worth the effort! It would be a great place to have a boat and spend the days fishing.
Sunday was also St Patrick's Day! Green was everywhere and we decided to have lunch at the local Irish pub. Live music, Irish cider and Beef & Guinness pie! A great way to end the weekend before the drive back to Brissie. Cant wait to come back Hervey Bay!
